Post-Operative Achilles Tendon Rehabilitation

Phase 1 (0–3 weeks)

Goals:
+Rest and recovery after surgery
+Reduce pain and swelling; non-weight-bearing walking with crutches/boot
+Gradual increase in ADL (Activities of Daily Living)

Recommendations:
❌ Non-weight-bearing walking for 3 weeks (no toe-off or touch walking)
❌ Avoid direct palpation of the suture line for up to 4 weeks
✔️ Allowed to place the foot down in standing or sitting position (without loading)
✔️ AROM – active ankle movements within tolerance
✔️ Strengthening of leg muscles in a horizontal position using static-dynamic exercises
✔️ Removal of stitches recommended on Day 14
✔️ Adjustable boot fixed at 30° plantar flexion
✔️ For pain and swelling control: cryo-compression, electrical stimulation, soft tissue mobilization

Exercises:
+Toe flexion
+Toe spreading
+Ankle dorsiflexion
+Ankle plantarflexion
+Ankle inversion
+Ankle eversion
+“Alphabet” exercise
+Dynamic and static towel stretches for the foot
